The recently published book “Neem: Nature’s Healing Gift to Humanity”, authored by Klaus Ferlow of Canada, is a milestone in itself and splendid account of the miraculous healing properties of the Neem tree. Azadirachta indica A. Juss (Meliaceae), for the benefit of humankind.

His book is an excellent succession to an earlier publication “Neem – A Tree for Solving Global Problems” (National Academy Press, Washington, DC, 1992).

Since ancient times, Neem has been used in India for relieving sickness and its medicinal uses are well documented in Ayurveda. Every part of the tree has some medicinal uses. Mr. Ferlow’s personal experience in treating his own chronic skin rash and psoriasis problem with Neem is an excellent example confirming Neem’s potential for healthier living. The very name of the Neem tree, “Nimba” in Sanskrit language, denotes its medicinal properties and is synonymous with “Arishtha”, meaning the reliever of sickness. “Pichumarda.” another name of Neem in Sanskrit means the destroyer of leprosy and healer of skin infections. Mr. Ferlow’s book will stimulate further research across the globe to explore Neem’s potential for providing affordable and lasting solutions to challenging human health problems. I am sure this book will be widely read all over the world.
